Shana hoping to show opponent her Power

Having fallen into mixed martial arts after first being offered a job at Fight Fit Militia, Shana Power will now have the privilege on fighting on the main card at the landmark 50th event of the Extreme Fighting Championship.

From humble beginnings back in 2009 the organisation now finds itself gearing up to host a milestone event at Sun City on June 17. Power will be in action when she takes on Micol Di Segni in a flyweight bout.

It’s a battle that pits two unbeaten fighters against one another and forms part of the build-up to the welterweight title showdown between Martin van Staden and Dricus du Plessis.

Shortly after joining the team at Fight Fit Militia, Power took a liking to a number of the disciplines involved in the sport which led to a stint as an amateur fighter, she was the first female fighter to claim a Fight Star title, before moving to the paid ranks.

“I am the only female fighter at Fight Fit Militia so I never get to spar other women. There’s never an easy round. The easy round comes in the cage,” Power said this week.

“I didn’t have a choice. I had to adapt to that or give up. But it’s made me the athlete I am today. It’s given me success,” she added on the dearth of suitable sparring partners.

The 23-year-old is expecting her opponent, a winner during her debut at EFC44, to provide a stern test.

“You’ve got to be prepared for a 15 minute fight but I’m confident in my preparation. I’m well-rounded. The tools I have is what’s going to bring me out on top in this fight.”

“I’m not over-looking Micol. She’s tough and I don’t believe this fight is easy. But it comes down to what happens on the night,” Power, who has her sights set on becoming the first women’s champion in the division, said.
