Angelo’s, a hidden gem

You might not realise, but Angelo’s Kitchen has been, please excuse the pun, right under your nose the entire time.

At least if you travel up Seventh Avenue in Parktown North often enough that is.

Friday nights usually result in a mission to pick up dinner and it usually involves something simple. It’s part of the reason the missus and I decided to give Angelo’s a bash. All we were looking for was a margherita, the pizza version that is.

You can’t really go wrong with a pizza but the really great thing about Angleo’s are the pasta dishes available.

So enjoyable was our first experience at this little gem that we decided to round up our friends and head back to give them a chance to impress us a second time and they didn’t disappoint with the general consensus being that it was good value for money and that the food was really great.

I tried the Pompei Penne – bottom left on the above menu – and wasn’t disappointed. If you enjoy a bit of a kick in your food then this will be right up your alley. I also picked the chicken option but I reckon it would be just as good as the vegetarian option.

Another great thing about this place is that the Kings Yard adjoins the restaurant so heading into the back for a drink afterwards – they’ve got a host of craft beers available is you are so inclined – is a perfect way to end of the evening.

There’s also enough entertainment offered for those people with kids who are looking for somewhere to go that allows them to talk to their significant other while their kids aren’t bored at the table and nagging about the fact. The staff had a brilliant idea of getting kids to roll their own dough and make mini pizzas while a jungle gym outside ensures that any excess energy is burned off.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stop off for a quick bit during the week and you’re in the area, Angelo’s is hte place given that they run a number of specials. The last I checked you could get a pasta alfredo for R29.
